On Faith and Prayer

Frank Bruni wrote in his New York Times column that when it comes to fixing our country’s problems, “faith and prayer just won’t cut it. In fact, they’ll get in the way.”  Of course Bruni is not the first, nor will he be the last, to denigrate prayer. It is most frequently done by those who misunderstand its purpose.

Rabbi David Wolpe, who I suspect knows a bit about prayer, shared this perspective on it, “People think, wrote Maimonides, that the words of the Torah are a healing of the body, but they are not; they are a healing of the spirit. Pray, but also go to the doctor.”
