Special Place Special People

Israel is not only a special place it is a place with special people.

My friend Udi stands at six feet five inches tall and flying economy class on an eleven hour El Al flight from Israel to the States is not the most comfortable situation for him. To make matters worse he prefers a window seat although I would think an aisle seat would suit him better so he could stretch his legs into the aisle. He told me that sometimes a flight attendant, upon seeing his height, would finagle a seat for him on the emergency exit aisle thus affording him plenty of leg room.

On one occasion there were no seats available in the emergency aisle so Udi was condemned to sit with his knees scrunched up to his chest  for the eleven hour flight to the States. Just as he resigned himself to a fetal position fate the young man seated next to him, recognizing Udi’s uncomfortable predicament, exclaimed, “Wait a second I’ll make more room for you”, whereupon he promptly removed his artificial leg and stowed it in the plane’s overhead compartment.
