An Old Story

It’s an old story, “And a new Pharaoh arose who did not know Joseph”.

Recently elected Egyptian President Morsi said that the United States needs to fundamentally change its approach to the Arab world if it wants to tamp down Arab pent up anger against the US. He continued to exhort the West to respect Muslim values and culture even when in conflict with its own. He concluded his criticism by instructing his US financial benefactors that they should not expect Egypt to live by their rules.

In the ‘old’ story you may recall Egypt drowned in its own sea of hubris and obstinacy. For those of you who do not believe in Bible Stories I have a question. “Are those tales any less believable than the unmitigated gall of a pharaoh who accepts $1.3 billion from his angels across the sea and then thanks them by kicking sand in their faces?”

Yes. It’s an old story with a new twist, “And a new Pharaoh arose who just doesn’t get it”.
